Progress !!! I have continued my effort toward bringing this piece to “life”. Thanks to everyone for your support and critique. The work, now has layers of thread and fibers to articulate the thin lines connecting emotions; and, how our emotions and inner thoughts either confine us or aid in our expressive break through ...the power of these emotions can manifest into an effortless existence of joy.
I have also stiffened the "skirt" to bring out the fullest and movement of the inscriptions (which I created using printable fabric in my inkjet printer)—Making them a focal point of inspiration.
Note, the threads stretched across the ribs (which represent the inner-self) ...these threads represent one final attempt of confinement. If you look closely, you will see the ribs have multiple layers of threads coming through- either free flowing or constricting the inner-self.
I've added golden thread-- woven throughout to signify hope; and, tiny bits of beads proving suggestive opportunities.
The background is a mix of thread and fibers all indicating "background voices" that either constrain us or inspire us.
Let me know what you think…

This piece has evolved beautifully. I love art that intermixes a variety of mediums (fiber, digital, etc.) This piece really shows your ability to capture that which we are unaware of, but are affected by daily. Great job in bringing out our multifacted self.

Thank you!! It was an emotional process. Working with thread is an empowering experience.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to have a chance meeting at Barnes & Noble on Friday night! Your work is beautiful and I've really enjoyed reading your blog this morning (much better than actually doing work!!!). Would love to meet up for coffee or dinner to talk further---I've reached out to my other art friend whose house we gather at for our recent art dates to see when she might be free to chat as well. No additional art dates set yet, but hopefully a weekend day in the next few weeks. Here's my blog address: daydreams.typepad.com
ReplyDeleteHave a great week!

ReplyDeleteThanks! It's a process...however now I am thinking about "upcycling" some of my older painting using this method. Got a boat load of thread form the thrift store today.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is fabulous. Thanks for visiting and signing up to follow my blog. Look forward to visiting you again.
